Answerable Questions with Questionable Answers is a lovely little podcast exploring the meaningful and the meaningless. We all have questions in life whether they are big, small, practical or just plain ridiculous. And we all have a go at answering them usually through the prism of our own experiences or the experiences of others. Whether it was a dead end job, a less than wonderful relationship or a great opportunity that just seemed a bit too risky to take we've all been in situations where we faced the choice to stick or twist. Do you really need a degree?

For the majority of people who complete secondary school the assumption is that they go on to university. Many people end up finding a career that had nothing to do with what they studied for their degrees and many others do very well for themselves without having gone down the university path. This week we're talking about degrees and how useful they really are. Chris talks about getting on the UN's payroll without a degree, Sarah speaks about cooking pasta at university and Marcus explains his decision to go to university was largely based on the amount of holidays you get.

Is sport more than just a game?

Do you get all nervous when the latter stages of Wimbledon or the World Cup is on? Does it put a spring in your step when your team/preferred contestant wins a crucial match? Or do you sit back and laugh at those who have any emotional response to a sporting event? This week on the pod the gang are talking about the importance of sport. Chris speaks of his time working at the UN and how they tried to use sport for positive change, Sarah talks about a recent outing to a football match experiencing the highs and lows of the crowd and Marcus reckons rugby is good for knocking some sense into young men.

If your career of choice came with the possibility of fame would that be a bonus or regret? It was once said that in the future everyone will have 15 minutes of fame. One could argue that we’re living in that time now. This week the gang talk about the fame game and whether the aspiration to gain fame is healthy or not. Chris believes we all have aspirations of fame at some point in our lives, Sarah would like fame on her terms and Marcus aligns himself with Billy Connolly and Noel Gallagher.

How do you respond to a crisis?

Greetings all! As we're currently having a fuel crisis the team thought they'd talk about crises this week. 

During this long period of pandemic that we’re still in the word crisis has been used time and time again. Of course, a crisis doesn’t have to be at a national or corporate level. Most of us have had some sort of crisis in our lives whether momentarily or over an extended period. Chris, Marcus and Sarah mull over fight or flight theories and speak of their own experiences of dealing with a variety of crises.

We all have things that we hate and stuff that annoy us. For decades the BBC had a show entitled Room 101 where celebs would go on and try to persuade the host to put some of their hates and annoyances into oblivion in Room 101. Today we’re answering this question - what would you put in Room 101?

Many people don’t like change. However, this is not true of everyone. Some people embrace change and are always looking for the next fad or phase. Chris talks about his love for change and new horizons, Sarah suggests that she's a bit more cautious and Marcus speaks of rinsing the present for all it's worth and moving on from Britpop.

Are you a picky eater?

Did you know that 25% of the population are classified as 'super tasters'? Or how about by the age of 5 most children stop being fussy about what they eat? Well, clearly some of us didn't get the memo on the latter as both Sarah and Marcus put their cases forward for being picky eaters. Chris gives some interesting advice on how to improve your palate and explains how he overcame his hatred of tomatoes and mushrooms.

The phrase 'don’t judge a book by its cover' suggests that outward appearances are not a reliable indication of the true character of someone or something. However, every week or even every day we make all sorts of quick decisions which indicate that we often do that very thing.

How can we disagree well?

In the current climate much of public opinion is rather polarised. We're currently in a very argumentative age with the option of agreeing to disagree seemingly not available. However, disagreeing with people is healthy if done well and shouldn't be shied away from.  This week the gang talk about all that plus - Chris mentions some handy tips to be used during contentious meetings, Sarah speaks about a disagreement we had as a team and Marcus mentions Donald Trump, of course.

Whether it is a particular food, public figure or tourist hotspot we all have have differing ideas about what's great, what's just ok and what's ruddy awful. Sarah has a rant about a certain popular alcoholic drink, Marcus suggests a former world leader is a bit overrated and Chris brings a more philosophical suggestion to the table.

Are you a better host or guest?

In the UK we can see a tiny bit of light at the end of this lockdown tunnel. When the lockdown is finally over and we can fully socialise again there will be all sorts of parties and social gathering, no doubt. With that in mind, today we’re answering this question - are you a better host or guest? 

Sarah says she feels too much pressure when socialising around someone else's house, Chris prefers to host as he's in charge of the cooking and Marcus claims to be an excellent guest. The gang also talk about what guests can expect if they are invited on the Graham Norton Show or what would have been expected of you if George I of Great Britain invited you to a bash back in his day.

As the media is filled with celebrity activity we can become so familiar with certain celebrities so that when they are no longer with us we can feel a sense of loss. How do you deal with a broken heart?

Greetings gang, on this week's pod we talk about break ups and broken hearts. Don't worry, the chat promises to uplift and not drag down. Sarah talks us through her experiences of break ups and suggests the 11 week/3 month rule does ring true. Chris talks candidly about his experience of a broken engagement which took years to fully get over and Marcus reckons the male response to this whole thing is rather different to the female one.
