Sheila reached out to Jerry asking what type of mask he wears while traveling or visiting the doctor.

He uses the 3M Particulate Respirator N95 Mask - style number 9210/37021 for protection from germs. These masks can be purchased online and come individually wrapped - making them ideal for travel because they stay sanitary.

CF Wind Sprint 53: Keeping your nasal passages clear with Nozin

After receiving a Facebook message asking about how he keeps his nasal passageways clear and germ-free, Jerry took to his Wind Sprint page to share his response.

As a part of his daily hygiene, Jerry uses Nozin, a nasal sanitizer, to kill the germs in his nasal passageways – and it lasts up to eight hours. He demonstrates two different ways of using the product – one that is more for daily use and one that is better to use while traveling.

What do I do post-transplant to stay compliant?

To stay compliant, Jerry keeps a daily log of things like his temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and a number of other things. He also takes his medications daily – on average about 40 pills a day. By monitoring his vitals and keeping up with his medicines, Jerry is able to keep track of how his lungs are doing.

Episode #0023 - Transitioning to College with CF

In this second part of a three-part series on transitions, we meet Ryan Randazzo. Like many kids his age, Ryan wanted to go out of state for college. But after weighing his options, he decided on the State University of New York at New Paltz, staying close to a CF center in case of an emergency. Ryan talks about the challenges of transitioning from high school to college, especially as it pertains to adjusting to a new schedule. He says some colleges will be flexible and accommodating to the needs of CF patients, but you should be sure to consult with your college about those options. Soon after getting to SUNY - New Paltz, Ryan was on his own, and very quickly learned the importance of maintaining your own schedule and having self-discipline when it comes to compliance. If you know you can go away to school with cystic fibrosis, he says, you can do anything in life.

In this episode, we meet Jillian Monitello, a native of Long Island, NY. Jillian candidly opens up about her experience in transitioning from pediatric CF care to adult CF care. Jillian shares a few tips about making that transition, and recalls the stress she felt when first told she would need to move into adult CF care. In the end, thanks to the guidance of her doctors, hers was a smooth transition.
